\[actually Monday morning]
I didn't do this last night because it got a bit late. Somehow it's hard to get my head into the space of reflecting on the day at the end of the day, when all I want to do is wind down and shut off. Which is part of my motivation for doing these daily updates, to build the habit. But last night, I didn't.
It had also been a fairly full on day, notwithstanding a sluggish start. I woke up early enough to get to the theatre by 8 but just couldn't get going. So I slobbed about and watched the highlights of Saturday's Giro stage (massive crash!!) and ended up leaving at about 8:30. In the end it was fine, I got the lights and projector down inside an hour, which was all I really needed to get done. And still made it to _The Train Yard_ by ten.
Some how I had it in my head that they had asked us to set up from 10 instead of 11 because they opened at 11 and wanted us to be messing about before customers arrived. But that was not the case at all, the place was thrumming with families and obviously had been for hours. There was not a lot of space for us. After a couple of false starts we ended up on a wide wall with just enough space for the three of us to stand, with my guitar neck behind Sally's head. No foldback and only one FOH speaker. So it was a bit quicker to set up at least, which was just as well since we wasted half an hour figuring out where to be. So we actually started early. And quietly. It was a tight space and everyone was there to talk to their mothers so we didn't want to be obnoxiously loud. So turned it right down and cut out some of ML's bigger shoutier numbers. Weird gig but people, to the extent they paid us any attention at all, seemed to enjoy it.
After we packed down I ordered a bacon and egg toastie and took that back to the theatre to finish tidying cables, and see how the tape out for the next show was going. It's going to be quite a different proposition. With its own challenges of course. :-) And then home, where I was hoping to rest my joints and grab a nap, but Temma and Dal were watching _yet another_ Spiderman movie. I had no idea there were so many. I pottered for a bit until it finished and Temma went out to collect her car and Dal went back to his room and set myself up on the back deck since it was a lovely mild sunny autumn afternoon. Didn't really sleep a lot but at least it was a rest. I extended the theme by going to the gym to sauna and spa and steam again. Turns out quite a few people like to do that at 5 pm on a Sunday afternoon, but I managed to find some space.
Home again, made pasta (Temma actually had some!), and read the [[Plays/Birdsong|Birdsong]] script. There are going to be some very interesting challenges in this show! I really need to make the time early in the process to think through each scene and transition and plan how I want to light it, rather than just turning up in the theatre for tech and whacking up the same old wash. This time for sure.
When I got too tired to properly absorb the last act, I put that down and put the bike race on. It was another boring sprint stage so that was really just atmospheric background until I gave up and went to bed. (Without writing about the day, which is why I'm doing it first thing Monday morning.)
