I bought a ladder today. It was long overdue. But that’s not all! It was quite a full day for my “day off”. It started with me waking before 5 am, which was annoying since I was up relatively late last night. But my hips were hurting and I needed to pee so there wasn’t much for it but to get up. I had my usual cup of tea then settled in to watch the remaking two hours of Stage 6. It was another cracker, weather and riders flying everywhere. By the time that was finished it was daylight and T. and D. had gone, so I let Bandit talk me into to taking him (and Gypsy) for a walk. Then sauna and spa etc etc. By the time I got home I barely managed breakfast and a bit of futzing with emails and show file setup before my midday osteo appointment. When I got back from that I futzed some more, including finally finding the wifi gateway I’d hidden at the back of the cupboard, had lunch, and tried to squeeze in a nap before D. got home. It ended up being more quiet time on the deck than actual nap. D. needed new exercise books for school so we headed to the local newsagent, via Bunnings. He made me buy him an ice cream. Then home and we unwrapped the ladder and headed out to watch [[The Glass Menagerie]]. --- A thing I learnt from [[Paul Lim]]’s lighting: the importance of a strong key light. This is not news, it was something said on the [[Light Talk]] podcast too, but it was a good example of it in practice. Start with the key, then add other angles to fill shadows and create balance. But the key should look like the “only” source of light. Of course there could be more than one key, or maybe the scene calls for lower contrast so a single key is less prominent—but start with a strong opinion of where the light is coming from. --- Now watching bike race. There is a cat on me.
