\[writing this Wednesday morning, because I was exhausted last night] Bump in day! And a super intense one. Not only a very short period in the space (12 noon start, with a dress rehearsal at 7 pm) but it's not a theatre, so we have to bring everything in. So I had six hours to load in, rig, cable, focus, and plot. Phew. At least I had roughed in all the cues at the last rehearsal on the weekend, so I wasn't starting from nothing, but because pretty much the entire rig was movers I still had to focus them for each cue. And I'd done something weird with the colour mode of the Terbly's so I had to re-do all of that. It went pretty well in the end. I got the hard physical work done in about two hours (which I am paying for today). Then hit a minor crisis when I couldn't find the USB-B cable to connect the ArtNet DMX box to the computer... and thought I'd have to get T. to drive in with it. But then it occurred to me that there was an Officeworks across the street, and they had one. Crisis averted. From there it was just a matter of making sure the lights were pointing in the right direction. Because we are operating of one laptop for both sound and lights, when Blake got in at about 5 to set up the sound I had to work on a tablet. Which actually worked out well, because it meant I could be on the audience side of the room, rather than the back which is where I'm operating from. But it does mean I still have to put all the lighting cues in QLab, which I can do at home today. The rehearsal itself went better than I expected. My rig pretty much covers the areas it needs to. The colour is a bit off in places, but not in a way that anyone other than me will be bothered by. I'll probably end up simplifying and dropping a few cues, just because the nuance is lost and they're not really worth it. So tonight's run will be mostly about learning the sound cues and making sure everything happens in the right places. I eventually got home by about 11 pm, and dropped dead. Besides that I also went for a short walk with the dogs and soaked in the steam room for a bit. I should probably do that again.
